Giuseppe Zanotti and Chopard’s Cinderella-worthy sandal. Atop the Chopard Terrace in Cannes , Italian shoe designer Giuseppe Zanottiand Chopard Co-President and Artistic Director Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele unveiled the world’s first high jewelry shoe.Set against the azure, mountainous backdrop of the Cannes Harbor, Gruosi-Scheudele and Zanotti explained their creative process in collaborating on the one-off pair of jewel-encrusted shoes. The fuchsia heels, detailed with a precise mix of tourmalines, rusellites, pastel sapphires, and pink quartz also feature strands of gems across the ankle straps that detach, allowing them to be worn as individual bracelets. For Zanotti and Gruosi-Scheufele, the synergy behind the collaboration was immediate. Zanotti attributes a hugely successful designaesthetic to his love for femininity and lightness. “It is the combination of the classic and the contemporary…the idea of a seasonless heel,” he said, describing his design focus. Grousi-Scheufele is similarly inspired by a sense of effortless femininity, explaining that the shoe’s dangling cascade of diamond and sapphire briolettes create “a shoe that evokes movement and dancing…they are very sensual and feminine in this way.” Following the today’s official debut , Anja Rubik will wear the one-of-a-kind sandals down the red carpet and up the famous steps of the Palais des Festivals tomorrow. From there, she will exit out on to the Harbour behind the film theatre, jump on a motorboat and speed across the Cannes Harbour to the annual amFAR gala where the heels will be auctioned off for charity. – Continue Reading BelowValued at $180,000, Zanotti describes them as a “not at all practical, but a little bit of a dream.
